The sky is falling

Poetry

The sky is falling

On a bad day,
smiles are plastered on like poorly placed prosthetics,
crooked.

Everyone
seems to be having a bad hair day.
Hell,
even the sun slept in at the expense of its makeup routine.

Laughs start to sound like
the dust on grandma's hospital bed.

The athletes are wearing dress shoes
(The shiny kind)
They've hung up their muscles for today.

Goosebumps are worn like jackets,
and the funny kid has run out of jokes.
He has his head buried in his arms,
eighty-seven days
till groundhog day.

The clouds are rolling in
and the last bit of warmth is this month.

The sky is falling today.
