A Sky Full of Sunsets

Flash Fiction

A Sky Full of Sunsets

A sky full of sunsets. A sky full of colors. A sky full of yellow, orange and red. A sky full of sunsets brings me peace. It makes me feel like everything will be ok, even when everything isn't ok at that moment. When I see sunsets, I like to imagine that my loved ones who have passed away are here with me, and that they are watching over me. I try to find a sunset every night, even if it's off in the distance. I find them in my neighborhood. They are pink, and they remind me of cotton candy. As much as I love the sunsets I see in my own neighborhood, I find the most beautiful sunsets on Lake Erie. The sunsets over Lake Erie are orange, pink and yellow and in my opinion, they are the prettiest of all the sunsets.

Gone In An Instant

Flash Fiction

Gone In An Instant

I remember sitting on the floor of the great room at my grandparent's house. I had slept over the night before with all of my cousins. We talked and laughed, and it was one of the best times I had had since my grandfather had been sick. He was struggling for a while. My family and I knew he wouldn't be with us much longer, so we savored every moment with him. That morning, it felt like any other morning. Little did we know what was to come. My cousins and I sat on the floor of the great room and watched a movie. Soon after we started it, we heard a scream, coming from the living room, where my grandfather's bed was. I jumped. My heart raced. We all rushed in there, and we knew at that moment, he wouldn't make it to the end of the day. We sat around his bed, and watched as he slowly passed away. Five years later, and it still feels like yesterday.
