Matriarch

I remember when our heartbeats would sync when we slept, a song only our hearts could sing. I remember the frilly socks, mary janes, and itchy dresses you made me wear. I remember the pigtails on the side of my head, never a hair out of place. I remember sitting at the table with you trying to figure out addition as if it were rocket science. I remember your voice, you were always the loudest. I remember my mom before she went to her lawyer's office, never to be seen again. I remember my mom before she was a voice behind Plexiglass. I remember my mom before she became pixels on a phone screen. I remember my mom before her presence became a memory.
