Mortality

Short Story

Mortality

No such thing as death

That's what the priest tells me

Do I believe him?

If death does not exist,

Then what is the box for?

What is this burning

In my chest, my throat,

and in my eyes.

Past the box and vultures in black

Lies a perfect little pool

In it I can see a mirror of blues

and the fleeting clouds of mortality.
