This Brown Skin

Accepted,
that's what they said.
But, whew chile',
this in but out thang.
It's deep, real deep.

Rubber band snap,
to the heart.
Being so visible, yet unseen.

The rules are different.
The bars are higher.
The hoops are more
That the taste of chocolate milk
is different, is often of no
moment.
But, whew chile',
this in but out thang.
It's deep, real deep.

With an attempt to rise,
the so-called welcome is short.
A chaotic, well-orchestrated,
opus is unleased.
Impacting the core, the soul, the being.

And status suddenly shifts.
In on the way out.

Internal fights ensue,
external battles commence.
Whew chile',
this in but out thang.
It's deep, real deep.

Fortunately,
even after the worst of storms,
things settle. Land that once appeared immovable,
sometimes shifts and makes space.
And, people, well, sometimes they do too.
